Successes
NTW in Action at Hope St
At Hope St in the Blue Mountains just west of Sydney
there is an affordable housing complex of 40 terrace homes.
With
a driving group of three household, a number of tenants are involved in an
array of programs such as those outlined below.
Soil
Making
As no real usable soil was available on site we had to get serious about
composting. Other than the local tenants scraps, we also pick up the
scraps from the local fruit store and supermarket daily.
Worm
Farming
For a good Nitrogen Fertiliser we have started several worm farms in
no cost boxes. Our pet worms are being happily fed from our supermarket
connection
Garden
Beds
Our composting and worm farming has proved so successful that we now
have enough soil for five large garden beds - the veggies are pumping
Hope
Street
Computer Forum
One thing participants have been working on is an
easier way for
Hope Street
neighbours to pass on good ideas, to ask for tips, or just give
information about a good deal, a great service, a top recipe or a party. They have begun with a newsletter,
but for those who are comfortable using a computer, they have also started
a Hope Street
computer forum.
Anybody
can post messages to it from their own computer or from the library down
the road where internet access is free. Those who don’t use a computer
can leave a note in a letterbox and it will be posted onto the forum for
them.

St Notice Board
To help make better connections we have also started a
Hope Street
notice board at the letter boxes.
Hope
St. Car Share
Through connections and organisation made through NTW programs two
households have bought a car together. They have developed a system to
share access and upkeep.
Energy Savers
At Hope St NTW is putting together an Energy Saving package for home
use of water and power. This program is designed to save $ and
energy.
